Organic foods seem to be the new generation solution to a healthy and chemical free life. Organic foods refer to food grown without the use of any kind of chemicals. This means that there is no use of harmful pesticides, insecticides or even fertilizers.

Organic foods are grown as per certain laid down guidelines. For food to be commercially marketed as "organic" it requires the organic certification. Earlier organic farms or farms growing organic foods were few and far. They were also small in size able to produce only a small output. However, now with the growing health consciousness, organic farms and foods are a concept that are growing in popularity. The United States has implemented the National Organic Program (NOP). It was given a legal dimension in the year 2002 and is executed by the Department of Agriculture.

Going by the tremendous health benefits that organic foods offer, they are definitely here to stay and carve a niche for themselves in the food world.

Organic farming does not include the use of synthetic fertilizers but 'Compost' organic manure is used generously in organic farming. 'Compost', known as brown manure is an organic fertilizer made by composting bio-degradable matter (leaves, vegetables, egg shells, tree barks, cocoa shells etc) for about 120 days. "Vermicompost' uses worms to break down the matter.
