Nuts, fruits can be more fatty than creamy cheese says a finding.  A new research says that nuts and fruits contain catastrophic amount of saturated fats and sugar, which may cause more harm than good.

Martin Isark, founder of the Supermarket OwnBrandGuide website was the brain behind this research which says that many people will be shocked to hear that the foods which are now being promoted as super foods are in fact loaded with sugars and saturated fats. Mostly these fruits and nuts are the crowd pullers at health food shops, but people go for them without realizing the dangers lurking around the corner.

Nuts, fruits can be more fatty than the chocolate that you leisurely munch during the free time. The fruits and nuts are generally promoted as the healthy holiday snacks. You can come across various health articles dished out by the health experts - suggesting that you should keep the box of nuts and fruits handy during the holidays. But Martin Isark says: "New Year dieters who are tempted to stock up on things like fruit and nuts in order to avoid chocolate could find themselves putting on pounds rather than shedding them."

Certain nuts, and dry fruits can be fattier than the sesame seeds and pumpkin seeds which you chomp as snacks. It is estimated that although sesame and pumpkin seeds are high in saturated fats only serving us 8.7 grams of fat per 100 grams and seven grams of fat per 100 grams, but handful of raisins pack alarmingly higher levels of saturated fats which may harm us in big way. Handful of raisins pack in 69gms of sugar, which is nearly three quarter times more than our recommended consumption of 90 grams per day. Raisins and some other nuts such as Brazil, macadamia, pistachio, walnuts, and peanuts are loaded with saturated fats which may induce heart complications in total. Of the lot Brazil nuts are fattier because they pack in 16.4g of fat per 100g; macadamia nuts pack in 11.1g of fat per 100g, then comes peanuts, which packs 10.9g of fat per 100g and the list commences with monkey nuts which packs 8.2g of fat per 100g, pistachio nuts, which packs in 7.3 gms of fat per 100gram, and walnuts, which packs 6.1 gms of fats per 100 grams. You will be astonished to know that the Philadelphia full fat soft cheese is healthier than the Brazil nuts because it packs only 14 grams of fat per 100 grams against the 16.4 grams. The daily recommended limit of the saturated fats for a man is 30 gm and for a woman it is 20g.

It is true that nuts, fruits can be more fatty but that’s not true for all. There are some nuts like almonds, hazelnuts and pine nuts which are relatively lighter in terms of fat. Also, these nuts don’t fall into the league of high saturated fats too.  Hazelnuts pack in 4.7 grams of fat, pine nuts pack in 4.6 grams of fat and almonds pack in just 3.7 grams of fat.  Festive specials like sultanas, dates, currants and raisins pack in alarmingly high levels of saturated fats which put them on the list of unhealthy foods. Each of these dry fruits serves you 70 gms of fat per 100 gram. Whereas 100 grams of dried cranberries and cherries serve you 70 grams of sugar, dried currants serve you 67.7g of sugar, dried raisins serve you 69.3grams of sugar, dried sultanas serve you 69.4g and dried dates serve you 64.9g of sugar. But the study suggests that apart from bananas and grapes all fresh fruits are healthier than the dry fruits.  Similarly you can go for sunflower seeds, linseeds and poppy because they have comparatively low level of fats compared to your favorite nuts and dry fruits.
