New York Joints Selling Gluten-Free Treats

New York joints selling gluten-free treat – whoopa! We have Sex and the City, Central Park, Bacon Soda, New York Giants and we now have gluten free joints. God! This why I love New York. When you do search on Google Maps, there are a surprising number gluten free restaurants marked from Manhattan to SoHo pop up. If you are living in the New York state of mind, you will know what I mean. Is there anything at all that is not available in New York? I am really happy about the fact that many wheat allergic people and people with the Celiac disease will have more eating options while dining out. Wheat allergy is caused when the body is not able to break down the gluten proteins present in wheat. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease which is similar, but the Celiacs have to stay away from barley and rye as well. I hope the Celiacs  get some barley and rye free food too here.

I'm going to review and list 5 restaurants in that offer gluten free menu options in NYC.

1. Lili and Lobo @ 792 Lexington Avenue

I love Asian food, especially sushi. So, that is why this restaurant is on the top of my list. It offers a modern and yet authentic Japanese, Chinese and Asian infused food. The best part is that a section of their kitchen has been declared gluten free. They also claim that many steps have been taken to prevent cross contamination in the gluten free zone. That is a thumbs up from me.

2. Peters' Gourmet Diner/Restaurant @ 1606, 1st Avenue (between 83rd and 84th)

This is an All American Diner that offers comfort food as well as brunch. Their menu offers low fat and low calorie gluten free dishes for their customers. I'm told that they have yummy pancakes and waffles that are gluten free for breakfast. The lunch menu has a wide assortment of sandwiches, burgers and salads. Everything is gluten free, of course. You can also eat outside when it is not raining.

3. Risotteria @ 270 Bleecker Street
I remember writing a post in which I had asked the Celiacs and wheat allergic people to stay away from Italian cuisine, because I thought that Italian cuisine cannot do without pasta. It turns out that I'm wrong. Risotteria serves made-to-order authentic Italian risotto. They use three different kinds of Italian rice; Baldo, Carnaroli and Vialone Nano. The rice can be cooked in just about any way that you can imagine. The gluten free sections are clearly marked on their menu cards, so you don't have to worry too much.

4. Asia de Cuba @ 237 Madison Avenue

This an Asian and Latin fusion restaurant. Asian and Latin cuisines are my favorite and I can't wait to try this out myself. I love the whole idea of fusing these two cuisines together; it is probably Caribbean. While ordering, you can specifically ask for their gluten free menu.

5. Candle 79 @ 154 East 79th Street
This is awesome because this restaurant offers scrumptious organic vegan options for the gluten allergic people. Food critic, Frank Bruni of the New York Times give a thumbs up sign to this restaurant. I'm told that the staff are always polite, helpful and are very professional. They use the freshest of the produce to make their dishes that are served to you is a chic ambiance. The pricing might be on the higher end, but I guess once in a while it is ok.
