New Delhi Railway Station To Become A Gourmet Delight

For a long time, the Indian Railways have been (in)famous for the poor and unhygienic quality of food and beverages offered on board and at the hundreds of railway stations across the length and breadth of the Southeast Asian nation. Lakhs of passengers who travel by Indian Railways everyday, also include tourists, both domestic and foreign, are in search of a good eating option that would be safe, hygienic and tasty, all at once. Well, it seems that the railway authorities in India have finally listened to all those prayers and are going to do something about it.

If you are planning to visit New Delhi, the capital of India, any time in the near future, you could do well to travel by train at least once. We suggest this because the New Delhi Railway Station, which is the hub of railway journeys in the Northern part of the country, has got itself a swank, new multi-cuisine restaurant.

This restaurant is a high-end option, which would be run by hospitality and catering experts, would serve international cuisines, adding a new dimension to the food capital of the country, which is already world famous for the delectable eating options offered.

The authorities are publicizing this restaurant as having unmatched “quality and experience norms” in the history of Indian Railways. The Railways authorities are keen to allow only top-ranking players to participate in the bidding process for the management of the restaurant, as one of the officials, associated with the tender process, says, “Only reputed names will be able to participate so that we don’t have any doubts over quality and service.”

The New Delhi Railway Station, which has already undergone a facelift in the past few years, will house this new restaurant near the waiting lounge on Platform number 1. The restaurant will be constructed to give the feel of an airport lounge and replicate the international dining experience right in the heart of Delhi.

The Food

This article would be incomplete if we do not tell you about what you are going to get to eat once you visit this multi-cuisine hub.

Continental:

If you want continental cuisine to eat, rest assured, you will get your share of the continental food here.

Chinese:

The cuisine that has taken the world by storm is bound to make its presence felt in a big way here as well. So, come prepared to tuck into your chopsuey or chow mein while waiting to board your train.

Punjabi:

The cuisine that represents the food culture of North India, especially Delhi, couldn’t be left behind, right? Therefore, it is imperative that the guests visiting this new restaurant should be treated to the ample fare of Chicken tikka and Chholey Bhature.

South Indian:

This cuisine, known for being heavily spiced, will take you by storm. Be ready to gorge upon some scrumptious masala dosa, idli, and vada-sambar.

The authorities apparently want to leave no stone unturned in making the restaurant a world-class one, which is why the officials are going to appoint a team that will have an expert of each cuisine for world-class management.

The authorities are already worked up about this one-of-a-kind venture, which is reflected in the fact that once this pilot project gets undergoing at the New Delhi Railway Station, a similar project would be launched at another major railway station in the eastern part of the national capital, Anand Vihar. So, next time you are in Delhi, don’t forget to keep aside a few hours to check out the new railway restaurant.

The best Chinese food I have ever eaten is that of Delhi! It is always a favourite when visiting this city. It is unique in that Chinese recipes are accented with the fragrant wonderful spices of India which gives the food an amazing taste.
