Mouth of Babes: Traditional Foods in a Modern World
Hella Delicious is currently creating a new series that demonstrates how to prepare foods that will nourish babies growing inside their mothers. These foods are high in certain fats, protein, vitamins and minerals. These foods are also beneficial for couples with fertility issues and for young children.
The foods and recipes demonstrated will follow the nutritional research done by Dr. Weston A. Price, which is currently being continued in the work of the Weston A. Price foundation and the Price-Pottenger foundation. Our favorite most comprehensive source on how to prepare these foods is Sally Fallon’s book Nourishing Traditions.
Dr. Weston A. Price studied groups from around the globe in the early 1930s and came to the conclusion that traditional foods are best for each particular society. Traditional societies always had special sacred foods that were given to pregnant women and growing children. Some examples include the organs of animals especially the liver and the first spring butter.
The main characters in Mouth of Babes are a young pregnant mother and her two year old son. The young boy is learning to cook, and loves to meet the plants, chickens and cows that provide for him.
In 4-8 minute short cooking clips our young pregnant mother and her two year old son will show you how to lovingly create the best food for your growing childrens' bodies and brains. As much as possible the episodes will include the community, showing how beneficial it is to support your own local economy while at the same time remaining connected with communities around the world.
Food is a great communicator catalyst. The most important developmental age for children is from conception to 2 years old. If they are not getting the proper nutrition that their growing bodies need it will affect them for the rest of their lives.
An ECCD founder of a local NGO in Myanmar/Burma that supports training preschool teachers and parents from all parts of the country, has spoken to me of her concern for the rapid loss of knowledge of young mothers for their traditional foods around the world.
Mouth of Babes is aimed at supporting people who maintain traditional foodways and who are reviving and teaching traditional recipes and foods in order to prevent them from becoming extinct–lost knowledge of our world. For more information and how you can get involved visit: Mouth of Babes
