Make Your Diet Your Priority

Waking up in early mornings, going to bed late at nights and superbly busy schedules in the between do not give us much time to pause for a while and think about our lifestyle. But it’s time to change; it’s time to make your diet your priority. A balanced and healthy diet is a must for a healthy life. The ways to follow this are very basic and very simple, yet extremely effective. Here are the top five ways of making diet a priority:

•    Never Skip your Breakfast:
A heavy and healthy breakfast is a must for all of us. While our busy schedule may not let us sit and make elaborate breakfasts everyday, there are healthy shortcuts that we can always avail. For example, fresh fruits, wheat breads, milk, oatmeal, cornflakes and even eggs boiled the night before and kept ready are some of the quick, almost “ready-to-eat” healthy breakfast options. Eating them does not only let you start your day healthily, it also prevents your body from getting into the starvation mode, thereby increasing your metabolism.

•    Five Meals:
Quite contrary to the common believe, eating more number of times does not necessarily mean gaining weight. In fact, for a healthy diet, you should eat five meals a day – three major meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and two quick bites. Choose these quick grabs carefully – avoid using junk foods here (no burgers or sandwiches or chocolates). Instead, go for healthy fruits that contain high fiber, like, apples, oranges, sweet limes, watermelons, muskmelons, papayas, etc. You can also go for a fruit-bowl with some assorted fruits if you like. Fruits juices and milkshakes are other options.

•    An Eye on Your Dinner:
Another way of making diet a priority is by planning or choosing your dinner correctly. Avoid having dinner outside as much as possible. But when it is unavoidable, order correctly. Creamy soups, white breads, mayonnaise-based salad dressings - all these, though may sound healthy, are actually not so. They have hidden fats which may cause the same damage as any fat-contained food. Therefore, choose the alternatives like broths, brown breads and plain salads flavored with other condiments like herbs, vinegar, lemon or garlic. Also, instead of selecting those cheesy, creamy recipes that may be so tempting go for the healthier, yet tasty dishes that are grilled, baked or boiled.

•    Food Quality:
No matter what you eat, it is absolutely important that you eat good quality food. Refined items like white rice and white bread or breakfast items that have sugar in them are devoid of most of their nutrients (like vitamins and minerals), while being processed. Hence, avoid consuming them as much as possible. Instead, go for their healthier alternatives like, whole-grain flour and honey. Thus, make healthy and good quality food to be a part of your daily life in order to make your diet your priority.

•    Water:
For a healthy diet, always drink sufficient water throughout the day. Fluids - at least eight glasses of them - are essential for good metabolism. While that includes fruit and vegetable juices, water is the primary component. Also, ensure that you drink good quality water – i.e., clean, distilled water so as to avoid any water-borne illness.

Making diet a priority is nothing but guaranteeing a healthy life to yourself. It’s all about changing a few habits of ours and about being a little determined in following the decisions that we make. The immense benefits that you get from doing so are surely worth all the efforts of controlling those delicious temptations and callings. So keep these simple tips in mind and give it a sincere try.
