Low calorie Burger-try it

I love burgers. However, when I think of it then all the cheese, yummy but high calorie mayonnaise and all makes me feel absolutely guilty. Junk food, extra calories that would make a huge contribution to my losing battle to my weight gain problem is what immediately comes to mind. Of course, I do have burgers not that I have given up totally and resorted to health food only. However, the calories don’t seem to let me enjoy this juicy delicious dish peacefully.

So I decided to cut out some of the fat and calories from my burger and still keep it tasty. First and foremost I cut out the slice of cheese. Now that would not be as sinful to indulge in. Next I used a low cal eggless mayonnaise (I just love the aroma and taste of mayonnaise and so that is an ingredient I cannot do without). Now I was definitely closer to my target of a low calorie delicious burger. The next step was to grill my burger patty without any oil or butter. I also replaced the meat for my burger patty with chicken instead of red meat. I am a great chicken lover and so it was perfect.

With all the extra calories cut out my burger this was heavenly and yes, minus the guilt. Believe me the taste was not compromised on one bit. So here was my burger with a lettuce layer, the mayonnaise with cabbage and carrot, crunchy onions, tomato slices, a layer of sliced cucumbers and huge burger patty. Droool….
Yummy…. My Burger is no longer junk food….Relish!!!

to all, to really cut out on the calories on making a home made burger (specially beef), it's the choice of hamburger patty that you should watch out. there is about hundreds or thousands of patties available on the market, the ones that says "pure beef" are the ones who are HIGH in CALORIES and CHOLESTEROL (specifically LDL or low density lipoprotein or commonly known as BAD cholesterol). after choosing the right patty for you, it is really good and healthy if you'll choose to grill it. it will surely reduce the fat on it but be sure to cook it just right for recent study shows "overcooked meals or undercooked" have a high tendency to produce colon cancer or trigger carcinogens in our body. to all the foodies, i'll soon be making a "burger steak" on rice. it's another unique creation of mine a long time ago. i'll be posting it here soon, so watch out you all! peace!

Great blog, and useful info. Nice photo of big fat burger! The big offender of calories is often the bun! I love veggie burgers, chicken or turkey burgers, and even goat/mutton meat burgers. Sometimes I just use a healthy whole wheat or multi grain bun. There is also some veggie cheese with chiles that is quite nice! But every once in a while one must just splurge on a big fat burger with mayo, lettuce, cheese, bacon, the works. BTW buffalo meat i low fat and tastes wonderful as a burger. I like making a flavourful spread using non-fat yogurt mixed with Ajvar, an Eastern European pepper condiment. Ajvar has a fabulous taste with grilled meats and almost no calories-fat free. You can make your own Ajvar or the Zergut Brand is quite nice. I buy the hot one which is very mild to me. Shanti/Mary-Anne

I use Fage (Fa'-yeh!) Greek yogurt. It doesn't taste fat free at all. Trader Joe's Greek style is pretty good too. There are a couple of California brands I like but only available here. Love yogurt, and rarely make my own-so easy to pick up a carton. Besides Steve won't eat yogurt unless it is a dish like Tandoori. Shanti/Mary-Anne

Making burgers at home is a sure shot way to cut down calories as opposed to eating the same outside. Your burger looks very appetizing. I am sure you enjoyed it!
