Laser labeling of food - Super cool

This takes care of sticky and messy label problems. 

Laser technology only etches the outside skin of this cucumber product,
offering a contrast of colours against which the laser label is etched.

A company called Natural Light Technology has invented a machine that can etch barcodes, expiration dates, logos etc. on the skin of soft and hard produce. They claim that since nothing comes in contact with the produce there is no harm.

On one side that's a great idea - no sticky labels. On the other - you lose the ability to use that part of the product for presentation purposes in cooking if you wanted to leave the skin on...
