Health Benefits Of Different Types Of Sugars
If someone told you that sugar was bad for your health, he/she was probably hinting at refined white sugar, which is hazardous even if consumed in small amounts. There is no denying that sugar is bad for health. However, a few alternative sweeteners like honey, stevia, maple syrup, and agave are harmless. In fact, these naturally occurring sugars found in fruits and vegetables benefit the body by boosting immunity, building and toning muscle, and helping one to lose weight. Explore more on health benefits of sugar in the write-up below.
- Fruits like wolfberry contain complex sugars like polysaccharides that help to thwart tumors, improve vision, fight free radicals, boost liver, and pancreas health. What more, this natural form of sugar aids in weight loss, spike up body metabolism, and are any day the best alternative to refined, high glycemic sugar.
- If you are concerned about using white or brown sugar, you can always substitute with rice syrup and barley malt, which are far less refined and doesn’t contain any synthetic chemicals. However, they have high glycemic index and can directly hit your blood stream.
- Another form of natural sugar, which is excellent for health, is maple syrup that also contains a good amount of zinc and manganese and is good for your heart and cholesterol. However, if you want nothing but the best for your body, then always go for darkest amber syrup.
- Honey is another natural form of sugar that is easy to digest, helps in healing wound, soothe sore throat, cure indigestion, and heal allergy. Also, since honey is sweeter than cane sugar, you can do well with lesser quantity in your cooking.
- Agave, a natural sweetener extracted from cactus is runnier and much milder in taste than honey. It is low glycemic, has no impact on blood sugar, and is ideal for diabetics or people who are allergic to sugar.
- Stevia is the perfect sweetener for human body. It is best for your pancreas, has no calories, easy to digest and requires only tiny amount in cooking. On the flipside, stevia has a bitter aftertaste.
Although white sugar in its refined form barely has any benefits, natural sugar indeed is good for health.
