Jake Gyllenhaal Joins The "Edible Schoolyard" Program
The Chez Panisse Foundation has a new member endorsing its cause now. Yes, actor Jake Gyllenhaal joins the "Edible Schoolyard" program and will be expected to spread the message across the schools of America. Alice Waters associated with the foundation and a staunch believer of the edible schoolyard program is elated at the turn of events. She feels that the charismatic actor will go a long way in promoting the cause compelling more and more schools to see the benefits of adopting the edible schoolyard program. She hopes that Jake Gyllenhaal would be able to reach out to a wide range of communities and finds him to be an effective ambassador for the cause.
The fundamentals associated with the edible schoolyard program are simple enough. The urban schools involved in it have to maintain an acre of organic kitchen garden within the school yard. The public school students then get an opportunity to learn all about the ways and means of producing food themselves which includes growing, harvesting as well as preparing nutritious and seasonal produces from the crops grown naturally.
The students belonging to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School located in Berkeley, California are now learning to appreciate how our environment can sustain us completely and are learning to support the environment of their school community courtesy the edible schoolyard program. The school teachers along with the special educators of the edible schoolyard program have also found a way of inculcating the basics of food concepts into their daily curriculum.
