Its National Grilled Cheese Month! Get Cheesy!
Someone out there has christened April as the official National Grilled Cheese month. My favorite, the basic grilled cheese sandwich and its variations are available almost everywhere. It is easy to prepare and experiment with and very filling. If you ask me, I did tell you that it is high time that we gave grilled cheese sandwiches the respect it deserves!
Though no one knows when grilled cheese sandwich was invented, everyone assumes that it has been around from the 1920’s. This is because, that is when sliced bread and cheap cheese hit the market. Many site the prominence of grilled cheese sandwiches in the military diet during this time. To this day, grilled cheese sandwiches are a favorite amongst Americans and it is no wonder that we have a whole month dedicated to this sandwich.
Amongst the events held this month, we have the Grilled Cheese Sandwich Contest being held by New York’s Artisanal Fromagerie, Bistro and Wine Bar.
