Is restaurant a diet trap? It can be or need not be, depending on what you eat. All of us will be tempted to pick  up those yummy, deep fried chicken nuggets and other items. When we eat them the foods become diet trap in form of restaurant. So what can be done to escape from the diet trap? Read on to know.

Brian Wansink’s Analysis

People usually prefer to eat healthy foods on Subway instead of McDonald’s. But the fact is if you do not choose food carefully, you might end up eating more calories at Subway than what you might eat at McDonald’s. To prove how, food psychologist Brian Wansink, who authored ‘Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think’, sent a team of his researchers to Subway and McDonald’s. Ironically, the team treated themselves a little extra at Subway, while ate much lesser calories at McDonald’s, which do not market itself as joints offering low-calorie food.

How to avoid the diet trap in the form of restaurant

To avoid the diet trap while eating at a restaurant, look for low calorie foods. Order clear soups and not creamy ones. One bowl of creamy soups sometimes contains 600 calories. If you love eating salads, opt for the ones, which are topped with protein dressing. Specially avoid salads topped with high calorie dressing, cheeses, bacon, croutons, etc, which may add many extra calories.

  • Opt Baked Food Instead Of Fried Ones: Instead of ordering fried food, always look for grilled, baked or boiled vegetable or meat.
  • Avoid alcohol: Be careful while ordering alcohol since it quickly adds extra calories on you. If you are following a diet plan or a little health conscious, avoid drinking alcohol at restaurants.
  • Avoid low carb menus: Restaurants offering low carb menus mostly have cheesy sauces and high-fat meats. This definitely is not a low-calorie food, hence, considered as a deceptive restaurant trap.
  • Eat in moderate quantities: If you are ordering appetizers like nachos, chips, salsa or buffalo chicken wings, you must know that these foods will always provide extra calories than low calorie entrée. It is understandable how difficult it is to resist such tempting dishes. But if you do not want extra pounds on your thighs, whatever you eat, eat in moderate quantities.
  • Do Homework: Before going out for dinner, do the research work at home about menus and the restaurants that offer low-calorie food. A half-an-hour of research at home can save you from gaining any extra pound of weight.

I am sure by following these tips you will never feel like asking, "Is restaurant a diet trap?", the next time you visit one.
