Inhaling Chocolate!? Get a whiff of this!

Of all the crazy but wondrous things in the world, this may very well take the prize for this year’s wackiest invention! What is it? It is ‘Le Whif’, the world’s first minimum calorie inhaling chocolate. Yes, you read it right! It’s meant to be inhaled!

French chef Thierry Marx and Harvard professor of biomedical engineering David Edwards have finally invented a (weird- I think!) way to indulge in chocolate without the guilt of indulging in calories. Le Whif is an aerosol inhaler that provides a puff of fine chocolate powder or mist every time you get the cocoa urge. Each inhaler contains about 200 milligrams of chocolate powder, less than 1 calorie of chocolate, with four puffs per container.

Le Whif is used by placing the device between your lips and inhaling. The particles land on your tongue and the sides of your mouth, where you can supposedly taste them best.

It is argued that when we eat a chocolate bar, much of the chocolate passes quickly through our mouth without spending much time on our taste buds. Le Whif allegedly allows you to inhale and savor the taste of chocolate in all its chocolatey-ness!!

The ‘chapstick’ sized inhalers are available separately, or in mix and match flavor assortments with chocolate, chocolate mint and chocolate raspberry as flavors for the taking - http://www.lelaboratoire.org/

There have been obvious concerns over the effect of an aerosol inhaler on the lungs and soft mouth tissues. While the creators of Le Whiff vouch for its safety, it is perhaps best to indulge in this odd yet most satisfying pleasure with a little restraint.
