Indian Food For Kids

People avoid choosing Indian foods for kids because of their spicy and oily nature! But you can find a variety of Indian foods for kids that are mild, nutritious, and tasty. The primary ingredients used in Indian cooking are ginger, turmeric, and curry powder.  However while preparing Indian food for kids you can make them mild to suit kids. This is a popular Indian food for kids that uses smashed vegetables like potatoes, carrots, beans, and peas.  This is an ideal after school snack for kids. Though it traditional recipe is vegan, it can also be made using ground chicken and meat.  The smashed vegetables or chicken with spices taste great and can be served with mint chutney.

 

Lentil Soup

 

Lentil soup is best Indian food for kids as it is loaded with amino acids and proteins.  You can use lots of shredded vegetables to make this soup.  Though it is vegan, using chicken broth or stock makes this soup tasty. Tomato based lentil soups topped with sour cream is one of the best Indian foods for kids.

 

 

 

 

Mild chicken curry

Usually curry is very spicy, so opt for lighter version.  The chicken absorbs the flavor from the spices used to make the curry. This dish goes well with rotis (Indian bread) or white rice. Use chicken breast or legs while preparing this curry as it is most liked by kids.   South Indian version uses thick coconut milk and lot of curry leaves.

 

 

Vegetable biriyani

 

This is made tossing vegetables and spice with long grain rice.  As the name implies it is vegan, you can use vegetables like peas, carrots, beans, cauliflower, capsicum, onion, and tomatoes.  Biriyani is the favourite food not only for kids but also for adults.  While preparing for kids avoid adding more spices and butter. Lassi

 

It is a sweet beverage prepared using yogurt, sugar, and fruit drink.  It is similar to smoothie but the base is always yogurt.  Kids love to have lassi with rose syrup.  Further to make it healthy you can use fruits like apples, and bananas.

 

Rice Kheer

 

It is a rice pudding made using cow’s milk or coconut milk, raisins, saffron nuts, nutmeg and long grain rice. Bowl of kheer served to kids would be emptied in no time.  This is a very rich food as it uses saffron, lot of nuts and condensed milk.  Once in a while you can make this rich Indian food for kids.
