what is this firni and jalebi?
Posted on: 9 October 2007 - 2:47pm

Snigdha says :

Hi slovina....phirni and jalebi are two very traditional Indian desserts. Jalebi is made out of all-purpose flour, semolina and baking powder, made into a batter, poured into hot oil in a chaotic pretzel shape, deep fried and then soaked in sugary syrup. These jalebis are crunchy and juicy. Jalebis are a favorite during festivals, weddings and other celebrations. Phirni is a delicious dessert made out of rice and milk. The rice is soaked for an hour, then coarsely ground and boiled in milk. Once it becomes like a pudding, its topped with chopped almonds, pistachios and saffron. Variations to phirni include adding rose water, addind ground almond paste or also fruits such as strawberry and mango pulp.
