Is your child complaining of headaches, stomach upset, lack of concentration and sleep, then maybe his caffeine intake is too high. Try to avoid caffeine in a child’s diet to keep him healthy and free of above problems. May be your child is not drinking coffee but many foods that are high in caffeine content. Let me help you identify hidden caffeine in your child’s diet and how to avoid it.

 

If you child is addicted to coffee or any particular food that is high in caffeine, try to reduce intake of that food slowly. Abruptly stopping caffeine intake will only complicate the problems arising from caffeine intake.

 

Here is a list of foods that are high in caffeine content. Try and prevent your child from eating them because some day it will take the shape of addiction.


Glacéau Vitamin water-Energy-citrus
Most of the energy drinks contain high amount of caffeine. This particular drink has about 82 mg of caffeine in 17 oz of drink. Explain the ill effects of energy drinks to your child and motivate them to switch to homemade lemonades and fresh fruit juices.

Clif Bar Peanut Toffee Buzz
It contains about 50 mg of caffeine in just 2.4 oz of bar. Encourage your child to eat healthy snacks like roasted dried fruits and nuts.

Hot Chocolates
Hot chocolates contain about 13 mg of caffeine in 8 oz. Do not let your children drink too much or too often; discourage them from having hot chocolates and offer healthy soups or smoothies with fruits and vanilla.

Coffee Ice-creams
Coffee ice-creams should be best avoided because it contains upto 68 mg of caffeine in just 8 oz.  Ask your child to try strawberry or butterscotch flavors instead of coffee.

Dark chocolate
Dark chocolates though eaten in small quantity contains caffeine as high as 18 mg in just 1.45 oz. So offer milk chocolates to your child instead of dark chocolates.

Barq's Root Beer
If your teenager is addicted to Barq’s root beer, ask him to stop it immediately because caffeine content is too high at 22 mg per 12 oz of beer. Request your child to consume fresh fruit juices and explain him why his beer is unhealthy.

Nestea Peach Green Tea
This particular tea has probably the highest caffeine content, 106 mg in 20 oz, switching over to white or herbal tea will be a healthy alternative.

It is important to avoid caffeine in a child's diet. Keep an eye on his diet and make sure he drinks a lot of water to drain out whatever caffeine is accumulated inside the body.
