I Hate Cilantro
I hate Cilantro, do you? Does this statement shock you? This was of course a shocking revelation to me as I am a great fan of this tasty herb that adds a very special taste and flavor to the dish. Cilantro is one that I use very generously in my cooking especially so when I try Indian, South Asian, Chinese and Mediterranean cuisine. The world of Thai, Indian and Chinese cooking seems absolutely incomplete without the addition of this herb. All parts of the herb are used whether as an essential ingredient for cooking or as a garnishing agent. Cilantro is new to the world of American cuisine however, has found favor with ardent foodies. This annual herb is extensively used in cuisines like Latin American, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Indian, African, Soth Asian and Southeast Asian.

I like the smell and taste of this wonderful herb that transforms the dish into a heavenly treat. Being an ardent fan of this herb, I was truly shocked when I came across the site “Ihatecilantro.com” where this club of cilantro haters pour out their woes and experiences regarding the herb. There are over 2500 members to this group and a google search came up with more such sites where there were even more number of cilantro haters. They found it to have a soapy taste, metallic some said and it just ruined their day is what most of them screamed out. One article went on to say that it is an gene that makes some people perceive differently the taste of cilantro. Are you a cilantro lover or do you belong to the group of those who find it a devil’s herb? If you are a cilantro hater would definitely like to hear why you feel so? Which side of the fence are you – a cilantro lover or hater?
