Meatballs, tasty ground meat seasoned with herbs and spices oven baked or fried is an absolutely tasty treat. I am still to come across anyone who does not love meatballs. Whether served with barbecue sauce, pasta sauce or just as it is they are simply great. Meatballs are a quick and easy recipe that you could serve even for a large gathering as the effort involved is not much. Meatballs have been am important part of cuisines across the world whether known as meatballs or koftas or by any other name, this is a mouthwatering dish indeed.

Meatballs need not really be the high calorie and high fat treat that you perceive it to be. A small change in the ingredients is all you need to do to make them a healthy treat. Substituting ground beef with chicken or turkey or opting for lean meat is definitely a healthy way to enjoy this delicacy. Meatballs are really easy to make and require ingredients that are readily available at home so you do not need to go grocery shopping at the thought of having meatballs. A few tips that I follow for the perfect meatballs would include:

1) I prefer chicken or turkey as my basic ingredient. Ensure that you just lightly mix all the ingredients together so as to have tender delicious ones rather than a tough lot.

2) You could use herbs of your choice to season the meat, basil and paprika are a must have for me. Freshly ground pepper is a definite addition to my meatball recipe. You could also add finely chopped onions or even vegetables like carrot.

3) Breadcrumbs, the store bought ones are definitely a quick and easy option . However, I like to go in for crumbling bread and adding it in or then toasting a slice or two and then powdering it to include.

4) The egg plays an important role in binding. Make into a pliable mixture using your hands or a spatula. Be careful not to add too much of liquid (either water or milk) or else you would have a very soggy mixture which would prove difficult to make out into balls. Apply some water on your hands while making the balls so that the meatball does not stick on.

5) The final part of the process comes the cooking. You may decide to shallow or deep fry, broil or bake them in the oven. Serve them with delicious pasta sauce and they make a great accompaniment for pasta, noodles and rice.

The whole writing has made me hungry have to go and get some of the meatballs out of my refrigerator for a quick bite. Yes, meatballs freeze well and so with a little effort today you can reap the fruits for a few days to come. Enjoy!!
