Do You Need To Avoid Junk Food?

Taking note of the public health crisis looming large on the world's future, the World Health Organization (WHO) has coined a term to explain this excessive weight gain prevailing worldwide, it is "Globesity." This fat epidemic is an even more serious menace for the USA with 61% of Americans overweight and 26% obese. What is more worrying is that this epidemic affects children even more than adults. Since consumption of junk food is considered to be the main cause of excessive weight gain, it becomes quite imperative to realise that you need to avoid junk food. Here is how you can do so:

How To Quit Eating Junk Food:

Eliminate Temptation

Do not, we repeat, DO NOT keep any junk food at home, either in refrigerator or cupboards. Enlist your family's help in removing all the traces of junk food from your home. Once you eliminate the temptation, it would be lot more easy to stay away from junk food.

A Healthy Foundation

After removing the junk temptation, stock up on healthy ingredients, like nutrition bars, low-fat snacks and sugar-free desserts. Even when you feel tempted to gorge upon these goodies, you know that you are not taking in too many calories.

Be Realistic

To say that "I am not going to eat chocolate ever!" is easier said than done. To say that I will eat chocolate only once a month is far more realistic and achievable goal. Be realistic and keep your goals within these limits so that you can achieve them easily and set new goals for yourself.

Identify Your Weak Points

Start with identifying the times when you, most often, go for that piece of chocolate cake, or that cookie. If it is the 3 p.m. monster, then you need to devise ways to busy yourself with something else so that you do not give in to the cravings. Also identify what occasions or moods trigger your junk food attack. try to avoid those moods or occasions. Better still, try to schedule some alternate activities around those occasions so that you do not succumb to temptation.

Go for Grilled or Broiled Foods

Instead of fried varieties, opt for grilled or broiled food items. Choose grilled sandwiches, fat-free or baked chips, light salad dressing, even while eating out. This will considerably cut down your calorie intake.

Cook Extra

While cooking over weekend, cook extra meals and put them in your freezer. These extra meals will help you prevent the junk-food run during weekdays when you are late from work and often tempted to call in a pizza or order chinese.

Take Your Time

Most of all, remember, you cannot overcome the junk food fetish overnight. It takes time for old habits to die. So cut down one junk food at a time. Start with that glass of cola you drink with dinner every night and switch to water. Then stop eating more than a few sweets after lunch or dinner. Go step by step and give your mind and body time to get into the groove.

It is important to avoid junk food but more important is to avoid it properly. We hope this blog will help you do just that.
