Tallow oil is a type of grease of fat that is extracted from the layers of hard adipose tissue that lines the internal organs of cattle and livestock like sheep, beef, mutton and even horses. Tallow has been used traditionally for preparing soaps and candles, though it is also used as a cooking fat. Most of the fragrant bar soaps in the market have tallow as an ingredient.

So how does one use tallow oil exactly? Discussed below are some tips for using tallow oil at home.

Lining the baking sheet: Instead of using baking sprays to layer the baking sheet, pans and trays, one can use tallow oil instead. Just take a small amount and pour it onto the sheet or the bottom of the pan. Spread it evenly using a thin, clean cloth or your fingers. Pour in the batter or the dough once the tallow has been evenly spread.

Adding flavor to foods: Tallow can be safely used for cooking purposes. If you are preparing some meal that specifically required lard, tallow is as good a replacement. For deep frying, take cups of tallow and heat them over the flame in a pan. Any sort of meat such as fish, beef, chicken, pork etc can be deep fried using tallow. As tallow is extracted from animal fat, so using tallow adds a noticeable taste to your meals. It is advised to avoid using tallow while sautéing onions or some other food. Use vegetable oil instead.
