Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate and all kinds of chocolate can be used in a chocolate fountain. The chocolate must be pre-melted, which can be done in a microwave or fondue pot, before adding to the fountain as a chocolate fountain device can not melt chocolate but only keeps it warm and melted. Add essences to flavor or colors to the melted chocolate to add a twist.

If you have never used a chocolate fountain device before here is how to use a chocolate fountain:

  1. Melt the chocolate to be used for the fountain. The chocolate can be melted in a microwave oven or over a double boiler. It is advisable to use chocolate which is specially made for a chocolate fountain or which has a high cocoa butter content. Some people add vegetable oil for better melting.
  2. Check parts and components of the chocolate fountain device. The fountain’s tiers should be properly leveled and the table on which the fountain is to be placed should be very sturdy. Check the base which has the pump and the central column of the fountain. The largest dish goes at the base with its hollow part facing up, while the other dishes will be placed with the hollow part down so that the chocolate slides down
  3. Next you pour the melted chocolate in the central column, until the base and one third of the splash guard are filled.
  4. Plug in and switch on the chocolate fountain and let the party begin! This is how simple it is using a chocolate fountain.
  5. The chocolate fountain device automatically maintains temperature to keep chocolate melted. The device will pull chocolate into the center and pump the chocolate to the top so that it can cascade down like a fountain.
  6. Keep your dippers ready.  Any delicious goody can be dipped in the chocolate. You will need to keep wooden skewers handy so that your guest can poke a goody with the skewer and place it under the fountain to coat it with chocolate. Also keep lots of napkins or small paper cups available.
  7. Read the manual of the chocolate fountain device to know the dos and don’ts and the technical aspects of using a chocolate fountain. The manual will also provide instructions on how to clean and wash the device once the party is over.
