When you take the first step in teaching children about organic food, you should have clear and firm idea on what is organic food. Organic food is grown in a proper way without using any kind of chemical fertilizers, chemical pesticides and herbicides. As a result, this type of foods can serve our body more nourishment than the normal ones. Here are few guidelines on how to teach children about organic food.Healthy organic food
  • To start with, you have to give a detailed definition on organic food to your children. For them it will be difficult to understand the difference between the normal food and organic food. However, if they develop the concept of organic food, they will also be able to distinguish an organic food from a normal one.
  • Theoretical definition of organic food may not be that much impressive to your children until you are showing them some type of practical examples. For this, you can take your kids along with you to the grocery shop. There you will find a variety of foods, which are labeled as organic. Ask your children to pick up the organic apple or organic milk or organic broccoli, just to make sure that they have learned to identify this kind of food.
  • While buying foods for your family, you should also give more preference in buying organic food. This way your children will also learn about the shapes, sizes and tastes of this type of foods. Along with this, you can also make them aware of the nutrition value of the organic food.
  • You can also encourage your children to eat recipes prepared with organic products. To do this you have to be little acquainted with organic recipes.
  • If you can arrange a visit to a nearby organic firm, that will be simply great way to teach them about organic food. You can also request the owner of the firm to do a demonstration on how the organic foods are grown. This practical example will stay in the mind of your children for ever and they would also start to grow interest in this concept.
  • Another proper way of teaching children about organic food, would be asking them to prepare a project on organic food. While working on this project they will learn a lot on this by searching and handling useful information from various resources.
  • If you have a piece of land at your backyard, then you can grow an organic garden to offer your children firsthand experience on this issue. You can also do this in your balcony with potted vegetable plants. However, organic gardening requires lot of knowledge and proper care for the plants, which you must acquire before starting this project.
