Wrap the jelly candies individually to prevent them from sticking to each other I have never had to be bothered about how to store jelly candy – they are eaten away even before I can think of storing them! However, if you have had the fortune of getting or making a really big batch of jelly candies and would like to know the proper way to store these sugar confectionaries then here are some easy tips that will help you in this task.

Jelly candies are soft candies made by adding gelatin or pectin to the candy mixture. Jelly candies like all other candies are highly sensitive to moisture. Hence, they are best stored in an air tight container away from direct sun or any heat source. The jelly candies tend to melt at high temperatures; hence always ensure that the candies jar is kept in a cool and dark spot. Refrigeration is not a recommended way of storing jelly candies due to the risk of condensation droplets destroying the jelly candy.  Also individually wrap each jelly candy in cling film to prevent the candies from sticking to each other. Some suggest coating the jelly candy with vegetable oil or cooking spray, use your discretion when choosing this method to store your jelly candy.

Jelly candies do not freeze well; however, if you must freeze them, then cover each candy with cling film and lay them on a cookie sheet. Place the cookie sheet in the freezer and allow the candies to harden. Once the jelly candies freeze transfer them into a freezer bag and freeze till required. Whenever, you need to use the jelly candy, remove the required amount and allow them to thaw inside the cling film wrapping and open the wrapping only when the jelly candy has reached room temperature – this way you will prevent the condensation moisture from destroying the jelly candy.

When stored properly jelly candies can last for up to 6 to 12 months at 70oF. However, the exact shelf life of the jelly candy depends upon whether it is homemade or store bought. Since the commercially made jelly candies have preservatives added they tend to store better and for a longer time than homemade jelly candies.  So this is how you store jelly candy, if you want to make some jelly candy at home then ifood.tv has some great recipes.
