How To Sleep Well - The Natural Way
If you are not able to sleep well at night it will be very harmful for your health. Those who have sleep disorders or suffer from insomnia need to know how to sleep well – the natural way of sleeping or else their regular dose of sleeping pills will have its side effects on their health.
If you wish to sleep well at night you need to take care of and be careful of what you should eat and what you shouldn’t. There are several foods and drinks which are known to be internal stimulants and you need to avoid them to have a relaxed sleep at night. This does not mean that you shouldn’t eat all these foods at all – it just means that you have to reduce their intake from the evening.
Caffeine: This is known to increase the heart rate and keeps the body and mind awake. So, if you wish to sleep well at night, do not have caffeine at least 4 hours before you sleep. Avoid all drinks which have caffeine such as non herbal teas, chocolate drinks and colas.
Chocolate: It has huge quantity of sugar and caffeine. It causes stimulation in the mind due to which you won’t be able to sleep.
Alcoholic beverages: These need to be avoided when you are sleeping. It is true that alcohol makes you drowsy and you might fall asleep quickly, but you will soon wake up in the middle of the night as you will be dehydrated and then you will find it very difficult to sleep, until you have another glass of wine which is not recommended. If you do so, you will develop a reliance on such beverages.
Here are some changes which you can bring in your diet, to have a relaxed sleep.
• You need to have a balanced diet with your daily requirements of vegetables and fruits.
• You should have complex carbohydrates and also proteins daily to help you sleep well.
• If you normally eat processed foods during the day and have disturbed sleep patterns, you should replace them with wholesome products. You should always replace, eliminate and reduce fats, preservatives and sugar from your diet so that your health improves and your sleeping patterns are not disturbed.
• You should schedule your dinner at least 3 hours before you sleep. Do not overeat at night as it will make you tired after your meal. However, do not starve also because if you eat less or starve yourself, you won’t be able to sleep as you will be uncomfortable with hunger.
One of the best natural sleep enhancing technique is to have a glass of warm milk just before you go to sleep. Milk contains amino acids which help in promoting drowsiness and offers you the much needed relaxation for the body.
