Want to know how to preserve jelly? Before telling your more about preserving jelly, please be informed that all types of sweet and savory jellies can be preserved at home easily and enjoyed as desired. Prepare and preserve jelly at home, this is much cheaper and healthier than readymade jelly which contains preservatives.

 

 

Here is how to preserve jelly and keep it fresh.

 

Things you will need

 

  1. Prepared jelly
  2. Half pint jar or pint jar with lids
  3. 2 piece canning lids
  4. Canner
  5.  Jar lifter

 

Procedure for preserving Jelly

 

  1. First sterilize the jars and the lids.
  2. Place the jars with open mouth facing up over the rack in a canner.
  3. Pour hot water in the canner and fill until the water level is 1 inch above the jars.
  4. Boil the jars for about 15 minutes.
  5. Take out the jars from the canner with the help of a pair of tongs or jar lifter.
  6. Pour the jelly inside the bottle.
  7. Wipe the jar with a clean damp cloth to remove any jelly sticking outside the bottle.
  8. Place the canning lid as instructed by the manufacturer.
  9. Tighten the screw band and jars are ready to go back into the canner for further processing.
  10. Half fill the canner with water and heat to bring the temperature to 180 degrees Fahrenheit.
  11. Load the jars back into the rack and add water to cover the jars by 1 inch.
  12. Turn on the burner and when it starts to boil vigorously, reduce the heat to boil gently.
  13. Process for 10 minutes or more as instructed in the jelly recipe.
  14.  When the processing is done, use a jar lifter and take out the jars for cooling.
  15. Place on a rack or a clean towel and let it sit at room temperature for at least 12-24 hours.
  16. After the jars are cooled, check the lid for indent. An indent indicates that the sealing is proper.
  17. Clean the jars and from outside with a damp towel and store in cool dark place.
  18. If the sealing has not happened, replace the lids and reprocess.
