How To Prepare Thandai For Holi
Thandai is a very popular drink, traditionally associated with Holi. It is prepared with milk, sugar, aniseed, peppercorns, saffron strands, poppy seeds, fresh rose petals, dry watermelon seeds, sugar, almonds and fresh rose petals mixed together.
To prepare thandai, you have to boil milk in a pan and let it cool for some time. Meanwhile, almonds, poppy seeds, rose petals, watermelon seeds and aniseeds are soaked in at least 2 cups of water.
The soaked ingredients are well ground to get a smooth paste. Water is added in this paste which is later strained using a muslin strainer. The liquid is then extracted in a vessel. Powdered cardamom, saffron, sugar and peppercorns are mixed. This mixture is well blended in milk and served.
Thandai tastes wonderful when served chilled.
