How To Prepare Healthy Meals In A Dormitory?
Students often get bored having food from outside during their stay in a dormitory. If each student learns how to prepare healthy meals in a dormitory, many of their problems related to healthy food can be solved to a great extent. Preparing healthy meals in dorm is possible – students just need to use the right kind of ingredients in making the meals and stay away from too much oil and fried stuff.
Here are some tips which shall help students to prepare healthy meals, especially those who stay in a dorm and do not have much equipment for cooking and the time also.
Salads: These are the healthiest options available to students, which can be prepared in very little time and do not need any kind of equipment also in their preparation. Salads can be made from raw vegetables especially green leafy vegetables after blanching them a little and sprinkling them with lime juice and pepper. Those who do not wish to have green leafy salads can have fruit salads. Students can easily prepare fruit salads in the morning and have it for breakfast with a glass of fresh fruit juice. This is certainly better than pizzas or fried foods. Salads can be also had as a part of lunch or dinner. They will just have to cut slices of their favorite fruits and add some great seasoning. A variety can be brought in the salad by changing the ingredients and occasionally adding extra ingredients like lean meat and sometimes just to pamper themselves, students can top the salad with a low calorie dressing.
Soups: Students can easily prepare soups. If they have a microwave or any type of hot plate in their dorm room, it becomes easier. They can have a variety of vegetable soups and chicken or other lean meat soup. Soup can be prepared for dinner when they can have soup with bread – it is a great healthy food option.
Grilled dishes – There are many dorms which offer indoor grilling facilities. Students who have this
privilege can prepare some real healthy dishes like grilled chicken, grilled vegetables, grilled chicken sandwiches, and grilled sea food. Grilled food does not need much of oil and are usually healthier than deep fried foods. Thus, students who have access to grills should use such grills for their convenience as much as possible.
Pasta – Pasta is also a healthy option for those students who have microwave in their dorm. They just need to mix water, pasta along with some salt and put it in the microwave. It wont take much of a time and shall provide a healthy breakfast or lunch.
Snacks – How can we forget snacks? Students always need something to munch on. Thus, it is always recommended to store granola, yogurt, and fruits in the dorm fridge. Whenever they feel hunger they can use yogurt and fruits to make some great smoothies and have them. Fruits can be used in making salad or just for simply munching.
