Do you love fondues? Planning to have a small get together with close friends over the weekend? How about having a fondue theme get together? Learn how to plan a fondue party with our few quick tips.

What does Fondue mean?

Fondue, is a derivation of the French word “frondre” which means “to melt”. So fondue is essentially any type of hot food, into which either the food is immersed for cooking or in which the finished food items are dipped and eaten. For example, cheese fondue is a type of melted cheese into which snacks, fixed to skewers or forks, are dipped before eating. Fondue pots are usually placed on the table and kept hot with the help of some type of cooking fuel.

To host a fondue party, one needs to have a clear idea of the number of guests that would be arriving to the party. For the menu, it would be interesting to include at least one fondue recipe in every food course. For the fondue loyalists each food in every course can be fondue based meal. Cube meats, poultry, bread cubes, fruits, chocolates etc can all be added in the menu.

As the guests would require fondue forks or skewers for dipping the snack items or the foods you need to have enough fondue forks so that you do not run out of them and there are sufficient forks available for all. There are different varieties of fondue forks available such as in plastic, bamboo, wood, etc.

A bit of advice here: Avoid eating directly from the fondue forks as they may be very hot . Use a fork to lift the food and onto your plate and then eat it from the plate.

Make sure that you have enough paper napkins and if you are using paper plates, make sure that you have sufficient plates and have kept some as a buffer for any extra guests. The table where you are planning to serve and place the fondue pots, should be covered with thick table cloths. A plastic sheet can be draped over the table cloth as that would help in removing any stains easily. The fondue pots should be placed away from the edge of the table to prevent any accidental spilling and the kids should be kept away from the hot fondue pots.

Some of the recipes that you can use for fondues are:

Cheese fondue: An excellent option for a fondue party, the cheese fondue can be served with snack bites. The cheese fondue can be served with small pieces or cubes of meat, breads, fried vegetables etc. which can be dipped into the fondue and eaten.

Chocolate fondue: This can be prepared by melting chocolate chips. One idea is to use semisweet and sweet chocolate chips together, as that would help in balancing the sweetness of the fondue. You do have the option of melting chocolate pieces, but chocolate chips melt quicker than chocolate pieces. Set out an assortment of fruits and candies like strawberries, marshmallows, sweet wafers, rice crispy etc. which can be dipped in the chocolate fondue before eating.

Beef Fondue: Beef fondue is a lovely dish that can be served as a main course. The steaks should be cut into ¾” cubes. Heat some oil and butter into a fondue pot and when the entire mixture becomes smooth and has mixed well, the steak cubes can be dipped into it and can be cooked depending on  the guest’s personal preference.

So, go ahead and plan a hassle free fondue party on your kid’s birthday or when you are having a casual get together at home.
