You can get in touch with your friends and guests and ask them to bring a few specific dishes. You can assign some specific recipes to your friends – if you know about some specialty dishes of your friends, you can easily ask them to prepare such dishes which they will willingly do.
Categorize all the different types of dishes in various categories like appetizers, salads, roasts, desserts, drinks, meats, salads and beverages. This shall help you to prepare several types of foods for your potluck party and also ensure that food is not repeated and your guests do not have to eat the same food in different types of tastes.
Your potluck party will surely have non-cooks – don’t worry, you can involve all such friends also. You can ask them to take care of the drinks section. They can plan out wines, beverages, fruit juices and cocktails. They can also help in arranging plates and chairs, along with other accessories which shall make the potluck party a real success.
You should always plan the food placement before your guests arrive so that no one is confused as to where to keep the food and how to arrange it. You can also use post-it notes, so that everyone is reminded where to place foods and how to find various things in your house. Thus, it is recommended to keep things at easy reach such as dusters, water, glasses, spoons, forks, knives and napkins. These are some things which will be required by your guests often and they should find it convenient in finding them.
Since you are hosting this potluck party, you should make the turkey in your own special way. Roasting a turkey takes several hours and it is difficult to get it transported – so it is recommended that you do it yourself and let your guests enjoy the food. Besides the turkey, you should also make arrangements for some very light appetizers so that your guests get to nibble in something as soon as they arrive. It wouldn’t be a good idea to serve them what they have bought in the party, as soon as they walk in your home. Thus, it is suggested that you arrange for goodies like roasted walnuts, cakes, cookies and cheese sandwiches for your friends.
Last but not the least, arrange for the open oven so that your guests can warm up foods or roast anything they wish. This gives them an easy access to the oven and helps them to have food as and when they want.
