How To Order Vegetarian Food In Spanish

Spain is famous for its seafood fares because it is surrounded by seas on three sides. But that does not mean that vegetarians don’t stand a chance in Spain and read on for help ordering vegetarian Spanish dishes.  Any vegetarian food lover can choose from a variety of vegetarian food preparations from the list of typical Spanish foods served at the restaurant, with the simple given thing that you should know few words and phrases in Spanish to help you to choose right vegetarian delights.

With fewer efforts you can easily choose vegetarian dishes from the menu because most of the servers understand few English words that will sear you through the problem. As word vegetarian is commonly understood by everyone, still you need to master some phrases like  "Hay comidas vegeteranas?" which means does this restaurant serves any thing vegetarian? Or on your arrival you can announce to the waiter “No como carne, ni carne de ave, ni pescado” which translates to “ I don’t eat meat, poultry or fish”  or more friendly you can enquire “Yo quiero solo” means “Do you serve vegetarian food”.

From the given menu try to search for few words that are common in Spanish and English. Some words such as ‘ensalada’ and ‘vegetable’ serve the same purpose. Other than that you can come across some common words like 'el espárrago', 'los espárragos'which means Asparagus ; el brécol, el bróculi - broccoli; la col de Bruselas - Brussel Sprouts ; la yuca, la mandioca, la casava, la casabe - Cassava ; coriflor - cauliflower;la achicoria -  chicory; el maíz - corn ;  el tomate - tomato; and patata - potato.   

Most of these vegetables are safe for all vegetarians. Piminetos assados is a grilled green pepper preparation commonly served in most of the Spanish restaurants. Also you can order Tortilla Espanola which is the traditional Spanish egg and potato omelet.

Like in any other European country, most of the vegetarian dishes served in Spain are also laced with meat and poultry ingredients. In that case if you announce that you are vegetarian, then there are the chances that you may be served food that contains meat, because for Spaniards being vegetarian means you don’t eat red meat. So be careful about your food preferences. Some of the phrases that will help you sear through the hurdle are:
Yo quiero patatas (pure): I would like potatoes (mashed potatoes)
Yo quiero un sandwich de queso y verduras : I would like a cheese and vegetable sandwich
Yo quiero tofu : I would like tofu
Yo querio pasta de verduras:I would like vegetable pasta
Yo querio arroz con verduras :  I would like rice with vegetable
