Process of making Thanksgiving stuffing
- Before you go for the process of stuffing, you have to prepare the materials which are going to be stuffed. You can use different types of items to stuff the turkey. But one of the common items is the dry bread cubes. Along with the dry bread cubes, you can use other vegetables, sausages, seafood, eggs etc. Do not use pre-cooked or pre-packaged stuffing as you will not get the desired quality. If you prefer the first method of stuffing, then you should cook the stuffing, while the turkey is being roasted. On the other hand, for the second process, mix all the ingredients of stuffing just before packing into the turkey.
- In the traditional method, while packing the turkey, you should be careful about one thing. Do not over stuff the turkey or even stuff tightly. Stuffing materials are supposed to expand, during the cooking process, which might burst out all the stuffing creating a mess of all. So, you should keep enough space for the circulation of hot air inside the turkey.
- After packing the turkey loosely tie both the drumsticks with a clean and white string. Also secure the neck portion with the help of toothpicks, so that nothing comes out. If you have excess stuffing material then separately bake them to place beside the turkey while serving.
- When you put the stuffed turkey for roasting in the traditional method, you should use a turkey roasting timetable to guide you in this process. The time and temperature of roasting will vary according to the size of the turkey. Other than this, you will also buy a food thermometer, as you have to check the temperature more frequently while the roasting goes on. For the right kind of turkey preparation, the temperature in the inner thigh area should be 180F and the temperature of the stuffing area should be 165F.
- In the traditional method, if you find that the turkey has been properly roasted but the stuffing is not. Then you should bring all the stuffing out and bake them separately before you re-stuff your cooked turkey. Proper baking of the stuffing is very important as otherwise it can remain uncooked or half-cooked and can cause digestive disorders.
- When the turkey and stuffing both are rightly done inside the oven, bring them out from the oven and immediately cover the turkey with aluminum foil. Let the turkey remain in this way for another 10-15 minutes, before it is ready for curving.
- However, if you follow the first method to roast the unstuffed turkey, then it will be an easy and fast job. In this process, cook the stuffing at 325F for at least half an hour or till the ingredients are done. At the final stage of roasting of the unstuffed turkey, pack it with the stuffing material and finally complete the normal roasting process.
