Making Coconut Cream
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
What you need: One coconut, milk, a hammer and awl
Step 1: Crack open the coconut using a hammer.
Step 2: Take the awl and bore a small hole to drain out the water into a glass.
Step 3: Put the broken coconut in a plastic bag, take the hammer and break the coconut into small pieces.
Step 4: Take out the coconut and separate the flesh from the brown skin.
Step 5: Put the coconut pieces in the grinder and grate the coconut.
Step 6: Take a heavy saucepan and put the grated coconut inside, with the milk and the coconut water. Bring the mixture to boil slowly, stirring often. Cover the saucepan with a lid and let its contents cool to room temperature.
Step 7: Take a large bowl and place a sieve over it. Lie the sieve with a cheesecloth or muslin. Pour the coconut mixture from the saucepan into the sieve. Pull the edges of the cloth and make a bunch, squeezing out the coconut cream.
Step 8: Refrigerate the coconut cream.
You should use the coconut cream within 5 days. The remaining coconut flesh inside the cloth can be dried or toasted to make other dishes.
