How To Make A Corn Cob Costume – Stitch In Time, Saves A Dozen Dime
So are you ready with your needle, thread and scissors, to make the best costume?
Read the instructions below on how to make a corn cob costume.
• Firstly you need to get a yellow-cloth ready for the base. A full-length skirt will serve the purpose.
• For the kernels, you need to prepare bob like structures with yellow-cloth, which is of a darker shade than the base cloth. To make the kernels ->
• Decide on the body length and space as to how many kernels you would be requiring, and make a suitable dimension to cut out squares a big one and a small one which is 2 inches lesser in length.
• Fold these squares into quarters, so that you can cut the corners off to make a circle. You will get one set of big circles and another set of small circles.
• Place the small circle on top of the big one, so that one part of it is lined with the bigger circle and pin it up.
• Now, with a proper spacing, tag both the circles with pins, (pinning up both the circles), as it’s shown in the image below.
• Once the circles are appropriately pinned, you can sew them together using back-stitch. But remember to leave a gap of two-inches to ‘insert’ your stuffing and also turn the kernel inside out. This is an important step in how to make corn cob costume
• Repeat the same procedure for other circles as well.
• Once the kernel bags are ready, (turned inside out) you stuff them with polyfiber stuffing and hand-sew the remaining open-seams(for the stuffing).
• Your kernels are ready. Just as you would sew buttons on a shirt., you take the skirt-base, lay it on the floor and position the kernels the way you want them to appear as corns on the cob.
• Stitch up the kernels from the back-side and make it sturdy by adding a few extra stitches if needed. You want to make a corn on the cob costume, which doesn’t drop off, at a drop of the hat(with your child bounding up and down or bouncing around).
• For the down-part of the skirt, you can use some fabric-paint(green shade), to make it appear as a part of the husk, and also make gathers or make a provision for a draw-string, so that the corn cob costume is tapering at the end.
• And for the remaining part of the husk, you could get a cloth of the same green color and make it into a jacket, with slit, full sleeves.
• As for the feet, you can also make a leaf-like covering for the shoes your child will be wearing for the D-Day.
