It has been found out that eating too many snacks is not good for children. When we say snack, we refer to foods like chocolates, puddings, colas, crisps, fries, burgers, pizzas and so on. The list is long and it is us, the parents who have given our children the flavour and habit of munching on these foods. In my house when a bowl of soup is served during dinner, the face of my daughter becomes long. She will not finish the bowl of soup until it is accompanied by fries. But is this healthy? I know it is not. So I have made a resolution this year - not to allow my daughter eat too many snacks and start giving her some healthy snacks.
Let us see how we can keep children from eating too many snacks.
-
It is a good idea to buy varieties of healthy snacks. However, do keep in mind, if
you give them only healthy snacks all of a sudden, you may have to face a lot of problems. So do this slowly and steadily. Pick up more of fruits, vegetables, yoghurts, milk, low fat cheese, dried prunes and raisins, nuts and fruit juices when you go for snack shopping for your children. Do remember to pick up some of their favourite snacks too like chocolates and crisps but in moderation. Now whenever your children wants snack, you can mix and match the healthy ones and their favourite ones. -
If you tell your children to stop eating something, that is the first thing they would want to eat. So, be patient. Present the healthy snacks in an appealing way to them. If you give kids fruits or vegetables just like that they will not even look at them. So present them in such a way that your kids start eating too many of them rather than eating the crisps.

- Play small games with your kids about snacks. You can segregate the healthy and unhealthy snacks. Tell your kids that they will get more points if they consume healthy snacks throughout the week and also that they will get a reward at the end of the week. This will get your children slowly addicted to healthy snacks.
Try out these methods and I am sure you can stop your children from eating many snacks which are not good for them.
