The end of the year is also a time of celebration for the Afro-American community across the nation. It is time for wide spread rejoicings which take the form of a Kwanzaa party more often than not. Traditional African American food is served to the crowd who gather together to celebrate the values of the African culture assimilated in the African American lifestyle of today. The Kwanzaa party is often seen as an amalgamation of two diverse cultures and the time to celebrate the outcome is the last week of December with traditional African American food which is eaten with gusto and prepared with much enthusiasm.

                                                                                   

Trying to figure out a menu comprising entirely of the cuisines that make use of the traditional African American food  items is not too difficult either. All you have to do is to include some of the most loved dishes favored by the Afro-American community and you can be sure of your Kwanzaa party turning out to be a rip-roaring success. Some of the unique traditional African American food stuffs that you cannot do without while hosting a Kwanzaa party are:-

                                                                                            

Jollof Rice - A rich, savory dish hailing originally from West Africa is considered to be a delicacy by the entire African community at any event especially a Kwanzaa party. The dish is akin to a curry in consistency and contains an assortment of fresh vegetables along with roasted shoulder of pork cut into tiny cubes.

                                                                      

Collard Greens - You can never go wrong by serving Collard Greens when you are contemplating traditional African American food. A pot full of greens including peppers, jalapeño, onions and tomatoes are boiled over a time with chunks of meat being added to it once the greens are tender. A special salsa like condiment can be chilled and added to the Collard Greens just before serving.

                                                                                           

Yassa Chicken - A unique blend of citrus fruits and chicken, this dish is one of the hot favorites at any Kwanzaa party. An entire chicken cooked with spices and lemon juice by baking or broiling is considered to be just out of this world. Served with rice, it is one of the most coveted traditional African American food items that represent an ideal blending of the two cultures.

                                                                                           

Sweet potato Pie - This particular dish hails back to Africa and is indeed a traditional African American food, one that is enjoyed by the entire community and even by people outside of it.

                                                                                       

Special cookies adorned with the colors of Africa are often handed out to the kids to mark the occasion as are other sweet delectable items like the Banana and Coconut cakes.
