The porterhouse is one of the tenderest cuts of steak available. Cut from the loin, including the top loin and the tip of the tenderloin, it is even tenderer than a T-bone steak and is a favorite among many. Knowing how to grill a porterhouse steak is essential if you want to throw that one-of-a-kind bash.

What You Need
2½ lb. porterhouse steak
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper
Garlic
Aluminium foil
Step 1: Preheat the grill, setting it on medium high. Heat the grill pan by placing it on the grill.
Step 2: Take a paper towel and pat the steak dry.
Step 3: Take some olive oil and cover the entire steak thoroughly with it. Add the salt, pepper and the garlic, covering the steak completely.
Step 4: Once the grill pan is heated, place the steak on it and sear one side for 6-8 minutes. Flip the steak over and sear the other side for the same time. This helps to trap the meat juices inside the steak.
Step 5: Lower the grill temperature to medium and continue cooking the steak for another 10-15 minutes, flipping the steak once.
Step 6: Take a meat thermometer and check the temperature of the meat. If you want a rare steak, remove the steak at 220 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the steak at 130 degrees for medium and at 150 degrees for a well-done porterhouse steak.
Step 7: Take the steak out of the grill and wrap it in aluminium foil. Let it stand for 10 minutes so that the steak finishes cooking in its own juices.
Step 8: Once the steak is done, carve out thin slices and serve with a sauce of your choice.
