How to fry catfish the Cajun style

Looking for a yummy catfish recipe? May be you would like learn how to fry catfish. Fried catfish is one of the most popular catfish recipes and has featured in Southern cuisine since ages. Frying catfish is all very simple and when cooked with the proper mix of spices it tastes like heaven. So, here you will learn how to fry catfish the Cajun style.

Before frying catfish make sure you have all the ingredients and cooking equipments in place. Keep handy a large sized wax paper, some paper towels, one paper bag, measuring cup and spoons, cooking oil thermometer and deep frying pan. For the ingredients, you will need catfish fillets, a cup of yellow cornmeal, enough cooking oil, 1 tsp of Cayenne pepper, 2 tsp of coriander seeds, 2 tsp of yellow mustard seeds and 3 tsp of Tony Chachere's seasoning mix.

Now, that you are ready with everything follow these steps to learn how to fry catfish –

Step 1: Put the yellow corn meal, seasoning and spices into the paper bag and mix up all the ingredients by shaking the bag well. Now, place the frying pan on a high flame and fill the pan with oil. Now, place your thermometer in the oil and note the temperature.

Step2: Next, wash the catfish fillets and pat the fillets dry with the paper towels. Now, place the fishes over the wax paper. Then, pick one fillet and put it in the spice bag. Again, shake the bag so that the fish fillet is coated well with the spices and the take out the fish back and place it back on the wax paper. Follow the same procedure, to coat rest of the fillets, one at a time. cajun-fried-catfish

Lastly: Check the temperature of the oil and when you see it has reached 325 degrees F, add the catfish fillets into it. Fry the fishes for some 5 minutes and place them on paper towels to soak up the excess oil.
