How to Eat Potee Lorraine?
The original Potee Lorraine also known as the Lorraine stew is a filling stew or soup that in general will have meat and sausages stewed with some cabbage and root vegetables for 2 to 3 hours in a special earthen ware pot.
When you eat an authentic Potee Lorraine it should always have smoked pork shoulder and cabbage, with leeks, carrots, potatoes, red kidney beans and turnips, a bouquet garni and a range of spices
They are the perfect dish to be served out for dinner and you can serve it with boiled potatoes and freshly baked bread.
You can eat various versions of the Potee Lorraine with a number of varied ingredients. The meats mostly used are forms of pork like bacon, head, ribs, knuckle, tail, sausage, ham. You can also eat Potee Lorraine that uses beef, mutton, lamb, veal, chicken and duck. Chicken sausages can also be used in place of pork sausages. The vegetables used are cabbage, carrots, turnips, celery, parsnips and potatoes.
Remember that if you are in Europe the Lorraine stew or Potee Lorraine is also known as hochepot. Garbure and pot-au-feu, though not the same are very similar dishes.
