How To Eat Moddizzosu
![]()
When we started our restaurant in 1990, we ensured that we included moddizzosu in our menu – since this is one of those items which are regularly eaten by Italians as well as tourists who come here to taste our traditional food. Now, we are proud to have taught several tourists how to eat moddizzosu. It feels wonderful to see them enjoy the bread.
We never realized that our visitors would love this soft bread so much that they would even recommend it to their friends and relatives, so that they visit us once to have this bread when they came to Venice. Moddizzosu became so popular among the locals and the tourists that we now serve it all through the day – there is no fixed time or day to eat this bread in our restaurant.
I write this blog, as a thanksgiving note to all our visitors who still haven’t forgotten us and speak highly about eating moddizzosu at our restaurant.
• Moddizzosu is served as a lunch and dinner specialty. You can enjoy it with other meat or fish dishes to complete your meal.
• If you are in Italy and wish to enjoy moddizzosu in its most traditional form, you can enjoy it in those restaurants which serve food in authentic Italian style. You will find that you are being served by waitresses in traditional costumes. This is a complete treat and I have seen tourists enjoy this the most.
• You have the choice of having this bread in a number of flavors such as ginger, garlic and cheese. Each flavor has its own charm!
• Potato moddizzosu is one of the most popular traditional meals of Italy. It gives the bread a new softness.
• Cheese moddizzosu is also very famous. It is so soft that you can fold and roll up the bread before or while eating.
• You can eat moddizzosu with a main course meal – this can be meat in local spices, eggs, baked chicken, turkey, beef, stew, baked vegetables, cooked vegetables in local spices and other meals as per choice
.• Moddizzosu tastes wonderful when eaten with red wines such as monica or even home made passsiti (wine made at home from dried grapes).
• Any moddizzosu meal is considered to be incomplete until eaten with traditional cakes and sumptuous biscuits. These cakes and biscuits are different as they are made from sheep’s cheese and lovely almonds.
• Children love the sweet and soft nature of this bread. This makes their birthday party and other small parties complete – they do not need any main course meal to be eaten with this bread. You will find that they simply cherish to dip the bread in white cream or butter sauce while having it.
If you are serving just plain moddizossu, you can include it in your breakfast menu with milk or chocolate drink.
