Karidopita is a walnut cake which is a must for any tea-partyI learnt how to eat karidopita at a very young age. In fact I still remember my grandma telling me stories about how her friends gathered in coffee houses or at their own places to enjoy this lovely walnut cake. Any tea party or a gossip party was considered to be incomplete without this rich walnut cake. The tradition of eating karidopita still continues with a little change in ambience.

Karidopita is still very popular in Greece and will always be so. Informal parties and get-togethers are incomplete without this delicious walnut cake. Young women prepare karidopita at homes in different flavors ( lemon, orange, strawberry)…they often add their own touch to these cakes (with frosting and coconut filling) making them more delicious. Children love to enjoy this cake at any time of the day. There are many different ways in which you can enjoy this walnut cake – here are some of them.

When to eat:
• Eat it as a part of your breakfast with early morning tea, milk or fruit juice.
• Have it at any time of the day as a snack.
• You can eat it in the evening when you are relaxing after a very tiring day.
• Have it in the evening with chilled fruit juices to refresh you up.

How to eat it:

Well, if you are looking for tips on how to make this cake more sumptuous here are some ways which will help you to enhance its taste.

• Eat it with whipped cream. It will make the walnut cake rich and very yummy.
• If you are fond of chocolate – dip it in thick chocolate sauce before eating. Nothing will be as delicious as this in such a case.
• The cake is usually served in square pieces. If you wish to break this monotony, cut the whole baked cake in different shapes. It will help to make it look interesting and tempting too.

• You can eat it in any flavor you love. My mom used to make lemon flavored cake – it would have a lovely taste and flavor of lemon due to the lemon rinds which were present in the cake.
• If you eat it in some leading restaurants you will be able to eat the modified version of the cake. You will find carrots and coconut mixed in the cake which offers the walnut cake a lovely crumbly texture.
• Karidopita tastes wonderful when it is served with a pie. Children just love this combination.
• When you wish to make the cake more enjoyable, try to serve it with a scoop of ice cream. You can serve vanilla or strawberry ice-cream or any type of ice cream which you wish.
