How to Cook Bone-in Ham
Ham is a favorite among many families, especially as a dinner option. And boneless ham is the preferred option. However, if you want an authentic experience, eat your ham bone-in. Here’s what you need to know to cook bone-in ham.
What You Need
10 lb. Whole ham
Large baking dish
Step 1: Slice off the skin from the ham using a sharp knife. You don’t need to do this if your meat store has already done it.
Step 2: Set the oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 3: While the oven heats up, score the fat on the ham with the knife. Make a diamond pattern all over the fat and each diamond with whole cloves. You can also do this without the cloves.
Step 4: Place the ham on the baking dish. Make sure the fat side is facing upwards.
Step 5: Once the oven reaches 325 degrees, place the baking dish inside, and bake the ham for 90 minutes. You can baste the meat with a choice of sauce or glaze.
Step 6: Take a meat thermometer and insert it into the thickest part of the ham. Bake for another 1-2 hours till the thermometer reaches 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Apply the sauce or glaze two more times while the ham bakes.
Step 7: Once the baking is done, remove the dish from the oven and let the ham stand for around 10 minutes.
Step 8: Transfer the ham to a warm serving platter and enjoy your meal.
