How To Cook A London Broil
My sister would often cook London broil (for parties) but it never satisfied our taste buds and we always felt that something was missing. This was when I tried to give it a shot and decided to learn how to cook a London broil.
We never had the picture perfect London broil – pink in the center and brown towards the edges and I wanted to know how this is done. The first lesson which Betty (my expert chef friend) taught me was about seasoning. She said that cooking London broil was all about seasoning it rightly.
Here are some excellent tips which I picked from her –very useful while cooking a London broil.
Pick the right pieces: You need to pick the right pieces for – it is best to get a piece which is of the same size (thickness) all through out. Many times you will find some pieces which are thicker on one side than the other – this can cause uneven cooking.
Seasoning: While you are seasoning your chosen piece you should ensure that both sides are equally seasoned with pepper and plain salt. You can also use good quality commercial brand steak rub for rubbing its surface. Remember that the taste of your London broil is a lot dependant on your seasoning – so never be in a hurry when you are in this stage of cooking London broil. Once, you are satisfied with the seasoning let it refrigerate for around 4 hours.
Broiler use: It is time to preheat your grill or broiler. Do not forget to spray the surface of the broiler with the help of a non sticky cooking spray. This is very essential which prevents the food from getting burnt. Now, it is time to place your broiler pan at medium heat. The heat which your broiler pan gets is crucial – it shouldn’t be too close to the flame (too much heat) or too far away from it (too little heat).
Cooking: Place your seasoned London broil on this pan and let it cook for about 8 minutes. After this time, you can flip it so that the other side gets cooked as well. This whole broil shall take around 20 minutes to get completely cooked. However, it is advised to be careful at this time – it is best if you keep checking it, so that it doesn’t get cooked faster than expected and then get burnt. ![]()
Ready to serve: You have now learnt how to cook a London broil. It is time to place it neatly on a bowl so that you can slice it diagonally with the help of a very sharp knife. It is recommended to cut thin slices so that each piece is tender. Serve your cooked delicious meat as soon as you complete slicing it otherwise it might get hard.
