Clean Leek Prior to Chopping

- Trim the root end.
- Discard the outer leaves.
- Slice the leek at the center.
- Rinse under running water.
- This would get rid of all sand and dirt located between the leaves.
- Dry on paper towels.
Cleaning Leek for Cooking as Whole

- Slice leek from both ends leaving a part in the middle of the stem.
- Rinse under cool running water, gently separating leaves as you do so.

- Slice leek into 2-inch lengths.
- Soak in a bowl of water.
- Rinse them well and drain water.
- Repeat rinsing and draining until leek is clean.
- Dry on paper towels.
