There’s nothing like a gorgeous gourmet gift for someone on a special occasion. Choosing a gorgeous gourmet gift can be very simple if you know where to look. Gourmet gifts are ideal for close people if they are gourmets themselves but for people whom you know professionally or your superiors for that matter, you cannot go wrong with a gourmet gift as it does not evoke undue familiarity and symbolizes refinement.

The word “gourmet” is of French origin and denotes a person who has a refined taste and passion in food and drink and appreciates fine cuisine. Hence a gourmet gift refers to a gift of food of high sophistication and quality.

All cities nowadays are abundant with gourmet food stores and you can easily walk into one of them and be bombarded with several options. This however could precisely be the problem. Too much choice can be confusing when choosing a gift. In order to be able to narrow down on the kind of gift that might be ideal it would be of help if you could talk to the person beforehand and steer the conversation subtly to topics of food and drink so that you gain an insight into his or her particular tastes and interests. For instance you do not want to gift a lot of cheeses that are good for cooking to someone who doesn’t cook. You’d rather go with wine. Or chocolates might not be the best option for a person with health concerns and dietary restrictions. Once you do manage to find out a bit about the person’s likes ,the following list of common options would be helpful.

Bakery: This category has innumerable options. A box of cookies, shortbreads, a homemade hand crafted decadent chocolate cake, a cheese cake: all these are safe options to go with. Just make sure the person is not on a diet or has any dietary restrictions.

Chocolate: Gourmet chocolates come usually in well-trays with a variety of bite-sized chocolates. Exotic brands are Godiva, Lindt and Ferrero rocher.

Wine: A bottle of vintage wine or a case of six would definitely make an impression on those new clients. Don’t forget to check the year and read up on the wine harvest of that year of that region before buying it. It’s worth the trouble as gourmet wines are not very cheap.

Cheese: This can be coupled very well with wines. Again reading up on what pairings are good combinations can give you a head start when in the store. Also if the person is interested in cooking, make sure to include cheeses that are suitable for cooking as well.

Gift baskets: These are the safest bet if you do not know the recipient personally. They usually have an assortment of food stuff; a little box of chocolates, a slab of cheese and some fresh organic fruit. The person is bound to find something suitable in the basket.
