How To Celebrate National Candy Day
How To Celebrate National Candy Day! Four days after Halloween, we get yet another opportunity to slip into a candy induced coma. Yes, the National Candy Day falls on the 4th of November, every year. I'm not sure how many of us are aware about this National Food Day in the USA, but it is that day of the year when we are allowed to act plain silly and dive into whale loads of candy. Candies always remind me of little children, not because of the fact that they like candies, but because of a different reason. Candies come is many different shapes, sizes and flavors, just like children but very sweet nevertheless.
Candy business is no ordinary business. It is as big as the show business. In America alone, the average per capita candy consumption is 25 pounds. No kidding! America is getting fatter by the day, but that is a completely different story and we will discuss that in a different post. In this post, you and I, are going to indulge in some sweet candy talk. The word candy comes from the Old French word çucre candi which in turn is derived from the Arabic word quandi meaning cane sugar. Today in America and in the American English speaking countries, the word candy is a broad term that encapsulates sweet things like chocolates, candy bars, toffees, fudge bars, jelly beans, praline, licorice chocolates, marshmallows, candied fruits, candied nuts, sour candies, gummy candies, gooey candies and yada, yada, yada. On the National Candy Day, people celebrate by buying, making, eating and sharing candies.
The National Candy Day gives us an opportunity not just to indulge in a candy overdose but also a very good opportunity to get in touch with our inner child. When I was a kid, I was determined that when I grow up, I was going to own a candy shop. I am grown up now and I still think that it is a swell idea to own one. I wouldn't be surprised if I find myself investing in a candy shop in the near future. Maybe in 2011, you and I should try to realize some of our childhood wants, wishes and dreams on the National Candy Day.
Have a Happy Candy Day, every day. Just don't over indulge. And, till my next post, stay candied. :)
