Caffeine is an ingredient found in Coffee, soft drinks, chocolate and energy drinks. It can be addictive and one should also know how to cancel the effects of caffeine from the system.

Regular coffee has around 95-200 mg of caffeine while a decaffeinated coffee has 2-12 mg. Statistics say in  US coffee drinkers consume an average of 3.1 cups of coffee per day. 80-9-% Americans both adults and children consume caffeine which is a stimulant. 15% is said to have got rid of the effects of caffeine by avoiding it. Canceling caffeine effects need a lot of will power and restrictions especially if they are bad for you.

Some people consume safe levels while the others take very high levels of caffeine. The mental and physical effects of over-consumption are many and the symptoms can be good indicators if it is affecting your system.

-High caffeine consumption constricts blood vessels in the brain causing headaches.

-Dehydration is another symptom of over-consumption. American Heart Association says caffeine affects kidneys stimulating the removal of fluids from the body through urine. When there is caffeine abuse the kidneys are over-worked and results in dehydration.

-Over-stimulation of Central Nervous System is also seen. Low levels of caffeine are beneficial for people suffering from fatigue and lack of energy but high consumption produce neurosis, insomnia and irritability.

-For those people who consume more than 1000 mg of caffeine a syndrome known as caffeinism results. They are characterized by anxiety, rapid breathing, nervous twitches, and visual hallucinations.

-Acidity is also a common reaction of over-consumption of caffeine. Around 100mg caffeine increase gastric acid irritation in the GI tract. This often leads to acid reflux and acidity symptoms.

The best way to compensate for dehydration symptoms is to drink lots of water in order to flush out the excess caffeine by the kidneys. 64 oz of water each day is a good quantity to keep oneself hydrated.Antibiotic medication inhibits the ability to process caffeine. Example-Ciprofloxacin and Norfloxacin affect the processing of caffeine. If one has a serious case of caffeine withdrawal then switch to decaffeinated coffee/tea and try it out until the system stabilizes and cancel the effects of caffeine.

Gradual removal of caffeine addiction is usually recommended instead of leaving it cold-turkey. This might help with the gradual elimination of fatigue, irritability, headaches and other symptoms of withdrawal from over-consumption. Mood alteration is also a key to over consumption and withdrawal. Intense fatigue, headache and irritability might make one a bit of an anti-social preferring to stay away from crowds or other people. It might be best to consult a doctor to cancel the caffeine effects.
