I know most of us tend to tensed about how much should one leave as a tip at restaurants. The foremost challenge that I face as a traveling foodie remains how much to tip at restaurants. Tipping practices are different in different areas of the world but here is a general idea on how much should one leave as a tip at restaurants.

Cafes, and Fast Food Restaurants

While you are at a café or a fast food outlet, no tip is required. There is a tip jar at some places where it is entirely upon you what you leave as a tip

Restaurants

Several local eating joints come into this category. At places like Applebee’s, IHOP etc. giving 15-20% of the bill post-tax is perfect.  And it becomes easier in cases where restaurants themselves suggest 10%. If so, do not pay more until and unless you feel like.

Fine Dining

When you set out for fine dining experience, get ready to loosen your wallet. The parking attendant should ideally be given $1 to $3. Tip the coat-room attendant $1for each coat. The restroom attendant should be paid $0.50 to $1. The wine steward should be tipped 10% of the total wine bill post-taxes and lastly the wait staff should be tipped 15 to 20% of the food bill post- tax.
