Thinking about our diet and wondering how many meals we need to have a day has become a common habit. With more and more people awakening to the problems of weight gain and the benefits of healthy eating, it is customary to try and find out how many meals a day would suffice for us. Most of us have been brought up with the idea of having three square meals a day but is that the answer to how many meals we require on a daily basis? The question of how many meals a day you should eat continues to plague us especially when we find ourselves unable to lose weight or stay healthy by following our own regime for healthy eating.

The dieticians as well as the nutrition experts advise spreading our meals all through the day, an effective way of solving the problem of how many meals we need to have per day. Breakfast is undoubtedly the most important meal of the day whereas a lunch and dinner that is not too heavy on calories should be adequate to keep us healthy while answering our query of how many meals a day is considered to be enough?

However having three meals does not quite solve the problem of how many meals we need to have a day entirely. Most people hurry in the mornings skipping breakfast which makes them ravenous before it’s too long. This again leads to an intake of junk food which completely negates the purpose of following a diet plan formulated on your answer for how many meals a day is sufficient for you.

Overeating at dinner is yet another problem most working people face. The only leisurely meal of the day becomes the dinner which is eaten with gusto and all thoughts of inquiring about how many meals you need to have is relegated to the back of your mind making your diet plan go haywire yet again.

Dieticians have now seen the advantage of recommending six meals when asked how many meals should be adequate per day for your bodily needs. The calories are distributed uniformly for one and the body does not panic and start storing fat as it gets its daily intake at regular intervals.

The debate about the three Vs six meal plan rages on, however, with the old school firmly believing that six small meals are definitely not the answer to how many meals we should have in a day. The benefits of both plans are obvious enough and you simply need to pick the one that suits you best.
