How 'Lactivist' Mothers Use Facebook To Share Breastmilk

Recently, I overheard someone speaking about how 'Lactivist' mothers use Facebook to share breastmilk. At first, I was genuinely grossed out. I was like; what the beep?!?! I'm pro breast-feeding but I'm a kind of person that thinks that it should be done in private. But when I researched a bit more about this buzzing 'news', it made me understand what was actually going on in Facebook. Many breast-feeding mothers have come together on Facebook and have founded a new network called as Eats on Feets. Before, I tell you about what Eats on Feets is, I have to tell you how it all started.
It all started with Emma Kwasnica, a Montreal based mom and breast-feeding activist. She had uploaded artistic nude pictures of herself breast-feeding her child on her account in Facebook. And because of those pictures, her account got terminated; four times. Apparently, it is against Facebook's policies to have any breast-feeding or nude or artistic nude pictures on the site. But, that didn't stop Emma. She started her own group; Informed Choice : Birth and Beyond, where she keeps reposting her pictures, among other useful things. Around 250,000 people who thought that this policy of Facebook sucks, have joined a group called “Hey Facebook, Breastfeeding Is Not Obscene!”
Only last month Emma decided to take this idea of an online community of breast-feeding mothers; offline; into the real world. She thought that it will be a great idea to organize various meetings and 'nurse-ins'. That is when the new 'offline' network 'Eats on Feets' came into being. 'Eats on Feets' helps women whose babies need supplemental milk with the donor women whose milk will be given to the babies. The network is just a few weeks old but has already grown to 98 local groups across all the states in the U.S.
'Eats on Feets' comes as a boon to many mothers who are having issues with lactivist mothers using facebook breast-feeding. The practice of breast milk sharing has been around for many centuries, and in many cultures. W.H.O states that it is ok to feed the baby with the donor's milk, if the mother's milk isn't enough. Since, this not a common practice in the USA, it might take some time to become more recognized and accepted.
But at the rate at which things are progressing for the 'Eats on Feets', things could be changing already.
