Thrush or candidiasis is a type of fungal infection, which affects the skin, genitals, digestive tract and the mouth in babies and breastfeeding mothers. Let us explore a few home remedies for thrush to get relief from the discomforting symptoms
Home Remedies from the “home” shelf
- For cases of oral thrush, salt water gargling 3-4 times in a day gives relief from the pain and quickens the healing process.
- Sprinkle a pinch of baking soda on the toothpaste before brushing and rinse with warm water. Additionally, rinsing with Hydrogen peroxide solution will give the double benefit of antimicrobial and antiseptic properties.
- Prepare vinegar douche for vaginal thrush. Vinegar with its mildly acidic properties can inhibit the proliferation of thrush. Similarly, yoghurt douche can prove to be helpful, with its rich content of friendly bacteria to help restore the pH levels in the vagina.
Home Remedies through herbs
- Basil tea is an effective home remedy for thrush. Basil is a powerful herb with rich antimicrobial constituents. Take a handful of basil leaves and steep it in boiling water for about 15 minutes. Gargle with the tea or drink it once or twice in a day.
- Use Rosemary tea for topical application or as a douche as the herb helps to relieve itching sensation when rubbed on the skin.
- Thyme is very effective against yeast/fungal infections. Drinking thyme tea 2- 4 times a day is very effective in fighting the infestation.
- Licorice powder is effective in fighting thrush. Add one teaspoon of licorice powder to one pint of boiling water and steep it. Strain the liquid and use it as a douche for vaginal thrush.
Home remedies through diet
- Drinking unsweetened cranberry juice helps to alter the pH levels in the vaginal secretions, which in turn is effective against the fungal spread.
- Including yoghurt in the daily diet will help in maintaining the pH and bacteria levels in the body. The live bacteria present in yoghurt help to fight the “bad guys” out there by helping to restore the pH levels in the affected region.
- Garlic with its “cloves” of health-restoring benefits is a good home remedy for thrush treatment. The spice is rich in antifungal properties, which helps to fight the fungal growth in the affected region.
Over and above, some basic precautions during thrush can prevent the spread of the infection further. Ensure to keep the infected region dry. In the case of oral thrush rinsing with warm water now and then and, after every meal will keep the fungal-proliferation under check. Ensure good personal hygiene and avoid sharing personal belongings.
From the home remedies for thrush, wipe out the fungus before it mushrooms to become a menace in your body system.
